Update on Vermaaklikheid athlete

To date, R1800 has been pledged towards the cost of sending Donavan to compete in the National Championships. This means we are still R 1200 short. Donovan is
excited and is looking forward to the event. He will be running the 200 and
400m. They are scheduled to leave on 19th September. Donovan has improved
dramatically since last year. He successfully obtained first place in both
his races in Heidelberg and Worcester this year and his time has guaranteed
him a place in the September Championships.

If you’d like to support him, please see blog post below ( Vermaaklikheid Athlete needs support) for details.

Hessequa Municipality say ‘No’

As opposed to the way it was originally reported by Golder in the EMP, the Advasol application is not supported by Hessequa Council at all. As a matter of fact a formal Council resolution was taken to record the objection. Hessequa will now also take the initiative in not only approaching the Minister responsible for local authorities, about these applications, but also to inform and mobilise their counterparts in the other application areas. They also plan to make sure that all residents in Stilbaai have been notified of the application.

Vermaaklikheid athlete needs support

The following note comes from Mandy Zeelie at the Vermaaklikheid Christian School:

Dear all,

Donovan Michaels is a keen energetic young man of sixteen who has a burning desire to participate in the forthcoming athletics to be held in September in Pretoria. His total cost including air fare to the event is a whooping R3000 (three thousand rand) in total. This youngster has a tender heart irrespective of the battle he has within his dysfunctional family. He lost his dad at the age of three and is currently staying with his grandmother, Fiela, in a shack. A few days ago, when we had the welcoming rains, his room was soaking wet with mud on the floor yet this boy always has a winning smile on his face. Please help to make this dream come true. This would be the very first time that any youngster from this community will have the luxury to fly in an aeroplane. What a tale to tell his grandchildren one day.

Paul Andrew has pledged R500 towards Donovan’s expenses. Donations can be made into the school’s banking account:

Please note this account can also be used for donations to the school in respect of books and salaries. The school has accomplished such a lot in the lives of the children and you are more than welcome to pay us a visit. My sincere thanks to everybody who has contributed in the past and who is still going to. You will help more children like Donovan. Any donation would be welcome.

Kind regards,

Mandy Zeelie
