The landscape surrounding the village used to be pristine limestone fynbos. It is now heavily infested with rooikraans (acacia cyclops) which has a negative impact on all aspects of biodiversity, as well as being a fire hazard and reducing water flow from springs.
Through funding from the Global Environment Facility, we have set up a trained team who are well equipped with chainsaws, a bench saw and a large chipper. The team has cleared a number of hectares of alien infested land.
Landowners contribute to the cost and the sale of firewood supplements the cost of clearing.
Contact Abie Pretorius on 076 628 9579 if you would like the team to clear a firebreak or work on your land.
