Alien clearing & fire wood harvesting

The landscape surrounding the village used to be pristine limestone fynbos. It is now heavily infested with rooikraans (acacia cyclops) which has a negative impact on all aspects of biodiversity, as well as being a fire hazard and reducing water flow from springs.

Through funding, we have set up a trained team who are well equipped with chainsaws, a bench saw and a large chipper. The team has cleared a number of hectares of alien infested land.

Landowners contribute to the cost and the sale of firewood supplements the cost of clearing.

Contact Rooken Podesta on rooken.podesta@thefield.za.net if you would like to clear a firebreak or work on your land.
